These students were rescued from child labor situations along Lake Volta as teenagers, and now they are working toward independence.<\/p>\n<p>One year later all eight Life Academy students progressed to the second year of the program, focusing on specific career skills, mental health, and educational advancement.<\/p>\n<p>Nana, our Life Academy Director, held a special ceremony marking the end of the first year of Life Academy and gave each student a certificate of completion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.touchalifekids.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_4118_sq.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4331\" src=\"https:\/\/www.touchalifekids.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_4118_sq-1024x1019.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4118_sq\" width=\"750\" height=\"746\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To begin the second year of Life Academy, the group met with psychologist, Dr. Rachel Pugh, to set goals for the upcoming year. Rachel will continue to provide weekly therapy sessions over the coming months to help each student overcome psychological hurdles from childhood\u00a0traumatic experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.touchalifekids.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/0Z2A7276.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.touchalifekids.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/0Z2A7276-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"0Z2A7276\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another new expansion for the second year Life Academy is our new space. Touch A Life has rented a small space directly next door to Eunice, Life Academy&#8217;s Sewing Collective Mentor, and her established sewing studio. Renovations are almost complete! The space will include a sewing studio as well as an area that can transition between educational and therapeutic uses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.touchalifekids.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/0Z2A7302.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.touchalifekids.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/0Z2A7302-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"0Z2A7302\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year we partnered with <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.earthboundtrading.com\/2017\/01\/07\/touch-a-life-x-eb-empowering-together\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Earthbound Trading Co<\/a> to sell a line of handmade tote bags and batik fabric created at Life Academy and the Touch A Life Care Center, and those funds were used to paint our new space!<\/p>\n<p>Now we need several tables and a few more sewing machines in order to start our new line of products.\u00a0Can you help us by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.touchalifekids.org\/donate\/\">donating $300<\/a> toward a new sewing machine and table?
